The $1 Interview
Find someone who is currently or has done work in the field you're interested in
Send them an email introducing yourself and inviting them to meet and talk about their job
Develop questions you will ask them
Meet with this person at the appointed time/place. Don't be late!
Choose a public place where you can talk. The original idea is to invite them to McDonalds and buy them a sweet tea/ice cream. Hence, the $1. In 2020, consider a zoom meeting.
Follow up with a thank you note that includes your name and a phone number.
The benefit?
You've made a connection with a local professional. If you make a good impression, you may just someday be looking for a job or internship and they'll remember your name. Talk this idea over with your parents (don't do this alone)! They may know of a relative or church member that you can talk with.
